New York, NY October 25, 2014: Native Missourian/Faces of Ferguson artist Voyager Zero (Nick Smith) recalls his first feelings of anger when seeing the protests following the tragic shooting of Michael Brown in Ferguson, Missouri. βI was angered by the negativity of the situation and what may have led to it,β says Smith, βbut I became inspired by the possibilities of the positive and negative energy clashing in the streets of Ferguson.β Using only an iPhone, the artist began producing ambient and transient sounds or βsongsβ to channel the images the televisions were showing and the radios were describing.
βFerguson, Missouri is a battery β positive and negative energy are flowing.β βWhile tragic events have caused these energies, it is someoneβs duty to help channel the emotion into positive outcomes.β - Voyager Zero Author/Producer βFaces of Ferguson.β
Smith launched a project called βFaces of Fergusonβ which will use images and sounds over the next three months to capture a turning point in the nationβs history and progression. Smithβs Kickstarter goal of $21,000 is not as large as the final goal, which will use profits from Faces of Ferguson sales and downloads to fund βThe Ferguson Battery,β an incubator for unemployed Ferguson residents. The artist says, βif we can capture this moment of unrest or uncertainty with music and photos β we will never forget it, and we will use it to make Ferguson, the people of Ferguson, and other communities that look up to Ferguson better places to live, work and prosper.β βNo one can be happy about the outcome of events a couple of months ago, but happiness can come, someday, by creating avenues through turmoil into productivenessβ.
