Florissant City Council Approves Definition of Family

After months of review and discussion, Florissant has a matching definition as well as a few new laws.

After being tabled and postponed a number of times for the past three months, the Florissant passed an ordinance on the definition of .

The ordinance now has a matching definition for family in both the zoning and building codes.

The ordinance now reads:

Family

a. An individual living as a single non-profit, housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit;

or

b. Two (2) individuals or married couple and the children thereof, including adopted children, foster children and grandchildren, and no more than two (2) other persons related to the individuals or married couple by blood or marriage and no more than two (2) other individuals; or

c. A group of not more than four (4) persons not related by blood or marriage and not living as a group home but living together as a single housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit as distinguished from a boarding house; or

d. A group of nine (9) or fewer unrelated mentally or physically handicapped persons (group home), excluding supervisory persons acting as house parents or guardians, who need not be related to each other or to any of the mentally or physically handicapped individuals residing in a dwelling unit as distinguished  from a boarding house.

The also approved an allocation of $10,000 for the election expenses of the Aug. 2 special election for the Ward 3 and Ward 6 council seat.

The council also approved:

  • An amendment to a section of the “signs and billboards” ordinance, that replaces a number of sections
  • A transfer of $26,000 from the street contracts account to building maintenance and supplies account for repairs to city buildings
  • An amendment to an ordinance for the Park Improvement fund appropriation of $7,200 to miscellaneous revenues and another appropriation of  $7,200 to parks professional services
  • An ordinance that allows to enter an agreement with HOME Investment Partnership Consortium along with the City of St. Charles; O’Fallon, MO; and St. Charles and Jefferson counties.
