Florissant City Council Approves Judge's Salary

After a great deal of discussion amongst councilors, the Florissant City Council passed an amended bill that lowers the salary of the .

As of the, the new municipal judge will earn $50,000 per year, which is lowered from the previous salary of $55,000. The salary seemed to be a point of contention amongst councilors as it was postponed during the July 25 council meeting to allow for further discussion.

During the July 27 council public work session, the council debated the salary lowering as the original bill stated the salary be lowered to $44,000 per year. However, Ward 5 Councilman Keith Schildroth asked for the salary to be raised to $50,000.

The amended bill passed the council unanimously.

A new municipal court judge will be decided in a special election in November. In June, Judge Tim Kelly passed away at the age of 63.

So far, and have formerly announced their intentions to seek the office. Filing for the position opens Aug. 9.

No Overriding Initiative

In response to Mayor Tom Schneider’s veto of the charter review commission, Council President Keith English said that he would not seek an override, as it could be a burden to the newly elected council members.

However, English continued that the council will begin work to review the charter in public sessions.

No dates have been set at this time, but English said that the council is working to set times to review.
