Monday night's meeting keeps tight schedule and passes two bills.

While several love birds flocked to area restaurants to celebrate Valentine’s Day, the topped off the day of love with a short and sweet meeting Monday night at City Hall.
Although the council lightened the already short agenda at the beginning of the meeting by removing and postponing a total of four bills, it made used little time to pass two bills.
The council unanimously passed an amendment to an ordinance dealing with animal neglect and abandonment.

The substitute amendment now clarifies that a person is guilty of animal neglect if they leave their pet or any animal in a car during extreme temperatures.
The council also gave three readings to bill 8705, which called for the appropriation of $198,500 to be removed from the general revenue fund to buy additional salt.

Mayor Robert Lowery said that the city has enough salt to last through two more major storms; however, in the event that another winter storm hits the area before the end of the season, he wants the salt shelter to be filled to capacity.
In a , street superintendent Gary Meyer indicated that the shelter can hold 1,500-2,000 tons of salt for the city of Florissant.
The council unanimously approved the bill, and it held off on reading others for the night.
Ward 4 City Councilman and council president Keith English proposed removing bills 8706 and 8707 from Monday night’s agenda at the beginning of the meeting. Each bill dealt with appropriating funds from certain accounts to compensate for benefits and overtime costs of the recent storms.
For bill 8685, which deals with the approval of the Dollar General being installed in Plaza Madrid, Ward 8 City Councilman Mark Schmidt said that he had spoken to the realtor and owner of the property, and he wanted to request a postponement until the Feb. 28 meeting. The petitioners of bill 8704 also requested a postponement of discussion and further readings until the Feb. 28 meeting.
