Florissant City Council, Residents Salute Long-Time Councilor
Karen McKay stepped down Monday night, but not before receiving high praise from others.

Monday night, the council honored her with a resolution for her 12 years of hard work and dedication to the .
In her last official statement, McKay said she learned and experienced a lot as a council member for the past 12 years and credited city employees, residents and councilors for all of the support and wonderful experiences she has had.
In addition, she gave special credit to the city attorney, city clerk and assistant city clerk for serving as her mentors.

“I have the utmost respect for the councilmen up here tonight,” she said. “It’s been a great ride.”
The crowd, council and mayor gave her a standing ovation as she stepped down to receive her proclamation from the city. Then, each councilmen, one by one, gave a short testament to his work with McKay.

“I’ve met some very strong women, and you’re one of the top three,” Ward 4 Councilman Keith English said.
“I think we’re all going to have start doing some more homework,” Ward 2 Councilman John Grib said about McKay’s ability to research topics.
Ward 6 Councilman Pat Stinnett said he’ll miss having that voice in his ear during council meetings.
McKay has continued to insist that she’ll continue to be involved in local government and area campaigns.
Her last words before stepping out, “Good luck (to Jackie Bond Pagano). We’re going to be watching.”
