Florissant Honors, Celebrates Its Veterans

Officials and residents honor Florissant Veteran of the Year, John Cahalin, on Sunday.

Despite a cloudy and windy afternoon on Sunday, the Florissant Veteran’s parade and ceremony brightened the streets of the city and went off without a hitch.

Families as well as veterans gathered along the streets of St. Francois, St. Catherine and Waterford to watch floats and cars on their way to the .

Once the parade concluded at the Eagan Center, more than 80 family members, residents and officials gathered at the front of the center for the honoring of Florissant’s Veteran of the Year, .

“I’m still trying to figure out how my name got on this list,” Cahalin said in his acceptance speech.

The hour-long ceremony also included speeches from Mayor Tom Schneider and keynote speaker, retired United States naval aviator, Capt. Bill “Striker” Switzer.
