Schneider leads in funds raised with $57,000 followed by Behlmann and Geerling

Update at 10:10 a.m.

Tuesday’s mayoral election promises to be one of the most exciting in Florissant history. But one candidate will have been able to outspend all the others by virtue of raising and borrowing more than double the money of the next candidate.

Of the six mayoral candidates, leads all candidates in fundraising with a total of $57,354. He raised more contributions than , who is second in fundraising with $26,548, but Schneider also took out a $25,000 bank loan.

Of the contributions reported by the Friends to Elect Tom Schneider committee since Dec. 31, at least $7,525 directly came from labor unions, development or real estate or construction-related companies, and attorneys contributed another $2,914.

Schneider received $2,500 from the Friends of Bob Lowery. The outgoing has endorsed Schneider. He also received support from current Ward 8 Councilman Mark Schmidt.

Behlmann’s funds included at least $5,900 directly from labor unions, development, real estate or construction-related companies and $2,400 from attorneys. That does not include a $400 contribution from his own business, Behlmann Construction.

He also received $5,018 from teachers and other education-related employees and organizations, including $2,500 from ACE Learning Centers. Behlmann is a Hazelwood Board of Education member. He also received support from Ward 7 Councilwoman Karen McKay.

Most of Geerling’s contributions came from individuals, except for a $1,000 contribution from the Conway for Alderman committee, a campaign committee to elect her cousin, Steve Conway for St. Louis alderman.

Her supporters include Suzanne Eagan, widow of former Mayor James Eagan and former Florissant Councilman John Moran.

’s campaign has been almost entirely self-funded, with a $1,000 loan from his wife, Toni Garrett; a $100 donation from Anthony Notorangelo and a $212 in-kind contribution from Garrett himself. Garrett said he decided to forego campaign fundraising.

β€œI didn’t want to put the squeeze on anyone, especially the way the economy has gone,” he said. He said he accepted the contribution from his father-in-law, Anthony Notorangelo, only because his father-in-law insisted on making a contribution.

Although formed a committee, he did not report any contributions or loans. According to a Board of Elections official, his committee did not file a required report by the March 28 deadline.

Following is a list of itemized contributions listed on the last two campaign financial reports for each candidate. Note that not all itemized contributions may be accounted for in this list. For more information, see the Missouri Ethics Commission website, or the St. Louis County Elections Board.
