Hazelwood Central Students Take the "Polar Plunge"

The Hawks will fundraise and get chilly to help the Special Olympics of Missouri.

students have decided to dive into the deep end of helping charity – literally.

Students and staff of Hazelwood Central, Hazelwood West and other area schools will take part in the in Creve Coeur Lake for Special Olympics of Missouri Saturday. Registration for the event starts at noon and the plunge starts at 2 p.m.

Ten students and staff from Hazelwood Central will be diving in to raise money for the Special Olympics. It’s a part of the official charity of student councils in the state, according to a press release.

The Hawks fundraising goal is set at $1,000, and at time of publication, the team had raised more than $300.

The Wildcats have a much bigger goal with 55 students and 11 staff members participating and a goal of more than $10,500. According to a press release, the team had raised more than $4,800.

Each school will also host a Special Olympics event at their school this spring.

Hazelwood Central will host the Special Olympics Swim Meet in April.
