Hester Paces Hazelwood Central to Second Straight State Track Championship

Hazelwood Central senior Michael Hester wins the 400-meter dash and the 200 in Jefferson City.

Area schools were well-represented in the Missouri State High School Activities Association (MSHSAA) Track and Field Championships in Jefferson City last Friday and Saturday. Here are some area highlights:

The Hazelwood Central boys won the Class 4 meet with 41 points in 18 total events. It is the Hawks’ second consecutive state team championship.

Hazelwood Central senior Michael Hester won the 400-meter dash with a time of 47.70 seconds. Junior Marc Franks finished seventh in 49.73.

Hester also won the 200 in 21.96.

The Hazelwood Central boys finished first in the 4x400-meter relay at 3:17.61. The team included junior Cole Davis, junior Sean Wills, Franks and Hester.

The Hazelwood Central boys placed fourth in the 4x800 with a time of 7:58.16. The team included Davis, senior Laquinton Battle, freshman Marcus Davis, senior William Mitchell, freshman Brandon Chunn and senior Justin Johnson.

Franks finished fifth in the 100 in 11.16.

The McCluer North boys placed 10th as a team with 21 points.

McCluer North senior Deondre Canaday won the shot put with a throw of 57 feet, 11.5 inches.

McCluer North junior Keith Jones finished sixth in the discus with a throw of 154-5. Canaday placed eighth with a toss of 153-2.

McCluer North sophomore Freddie Crittendon finished fifth in the 300-meter hurdles at 39.17.

The Hazelwood Central girls placed 15th as a team with 20 points.

Hazelwood Central junior Kim Moye finished second in the triple jump with a leap of 38-01.50.

Hazelwood Central freshman Ashley Henderson placed third in the 100 at 11.97. She also finished third in the 200 at 24.64.

The McCluer girls finished 10th as a team (out of 44 teams) with 23 points.

The McCluer girls placed fifth in the 4x200 with a time of 1:42.75.

McCluer senior Catrina Harris and junior Sherise Williams tied for third in the high jump with leaps of 5-03.

McCluer senior Jaronica Owens finished fourth in the 200 in 24.92. White placed fifth at 24.97.

The McCluer North girls placed 13th with 21 points.

McCluer North senior Kendra White finished second in the 400 in 54.55.

The McCluer North girls 4x400 team placed second at 3:53.57. The team included White, senior Natalie Pattin, junior Deniesha Trice and freshman Rachel Culberson.

McCluer North senior Natalie Pattin placed eighth in the 800 at 2:23.74.
