Notebook: McCluer Baseball Relying on Jeffries
Senior outfielder Lance Jeffries continues to be the Comets' main source of offense.

The McCluer baseball team (5-10, 4-5 Suburban North) knocked off Hazelwood West last Thursday, 12-11, as John Struttmann threw five solid innings in relief, allowing just two runs. The Comets’ game against McCluer North on Monday was rained out, and they are scheduled to play at Riverview Gardens on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and at Pattonville on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Lance Jeffries continues to be the Comets’ main source of offense, as he is batting .485 with six home runs and 23 runs batted in to easily lead the team in each category.
The McCluer girls soccer team is 4-6, including a 1-2 mark in the Suburban North Conference. The Comets are scheduled to play Pattonville on Tuesday at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley at 3:30 p.m. and then at Riverview Gardens on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Junior midfielder Marquayla Dixon leads McCluer with six goals and 16 points this season. Senior defenseman Kelly Kennealy has six goals, and sophomore midfielder Anissa Gomez has scored five.
The McCluer North baseball team is 3-7, and 2-4 in league play. The Stars are scheduled to play at Hazelwood West on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and at Riverview Gardens on Thursday at 4 p.m.
Junior first baseman Nick Wildman is batting .393, followed by teammate senior shortstop Gregory Elliott at .379. Wildman has also thrown 19 innings, and has a respectable 4.05 earned-run average.
The McCluer North girls soccer team is 4-7, including a 2-2 conference record. The Stars, who beat last Wednesday 3-0, will host St. Charles (8-4) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. and will play at Ritenour on Thursday at 4 p.m. Senior defender Miranda Graham has a team-leading four goals. She plans to play next season at the University of Evansville.
Hazelwood Central girls soccer is 4-9 after falling to Ritenour, 2-1, last Thursday one day after their loss to McCluer North. The Hawks play at Jefferson City on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. and then will battle Helias on Thursday at 5 p.m. at Hickman in Columbia, Mo.
Junior midfielder Caitlyn Obrock leads Central with four goals and 14 points.
