Planning and Zoning Gets Back on Track
With its first meeting since April 18, commissioners discuss parking space ratios and permit requests.

After a monthlong hiatus, the commission jumped back into action with discussion of the number of parking space ratios as well as two special use permit requests from petitioners.
Commissioners wanted to resolve the problem of large strip malls with a number of empty parking spaces throughout the lot.
Although all agreed that more information needed to be revealed before they could make a recommendation to lower parking ratios, how to get that additional information seemed to be up for debate.

Commissioner James Hessel recommended hiring professionals to do a study on the parking space ratios, however, Commissioner Paul Stock suggested that the Ccity of Florissant should investigate and provide information before hiring an outside resource.
Stock made a motion to have the city research more information before involving outside professionals to research the issue, and it passed.

Here are a few other highlights from Monday night’s Planning and Zoning meeting:
- The commission recommended approval of a special use permit to Mike Miller for his automotive service business. Miller explained to the commission that the lease was up at the old location, 2020 Patterson Rd., and the property owner of the old location is giving J&M Service a different building to run its business. 's new location, 865 N. Lafayette, will use the same building as Florissant Radiation. However, the two companies will be on different sides of the building, and Miller emphasized his company had zero ties with Florissant Radiation.
- Alice Ratnaswamy's request for a special use permit in a B-3 Zoning District for her child day care center, Kydz Kastle, returned in front of the commission with little result on Monday night. The architect told the commission that he was not ready to build. In addition, the fire department also addressed the issue that the entrance to the building is 15 degrees too steep and that their fire trucks are not able to get up the driveway. The commission recommended to continue the item to the June 20 meeting, where new plans for the building would be presented.
- The commissioners also recommended approval to implement moratoriums on the insurance of business licenses to taverns, cocktail lounges and night clubs.
