Sports run deep in Florissant, and McCluer North High School has long been at the heart of it. Itβs no surprise some standout talent once wore the Stars uniform. Today we're celebrating five unforgettable athletes from McCluer North High School who made a name for themselves well beyond the hometown field.
1. Barrett Brooks β NFL Offensive Tackle (Philadelphia Eagles, Pittsburgh Steelers)
Brooks is a former professional football offensive tackle who attended McCluer North High School in Florissant, Missouri, excelling in football and basketball before playing at Kansas State University. Drafted in the second round of the 1995 NFL Draft by the Philadelphia Eagles, he played 12 NFL seasons with multiple teams and won a Super Bowl XL ring with the Steelers. 2. Jon Vaughn β NFL Running Back (New England Patriots, Seattle Seahawks, Kansas City Chiefs)
Vaughn is a former professional football running back and kick returner who attended McCluer North High School in Florissant, Missouri, before setting records at the University of Michigan and earning Big Ten βCo-Offensive Player of the Yearβ honors. Drafted in the fifth round of the 1991 NFL Draft, he played four NFL seasons with the Patriots, Seahawks and Chiefs, scoring kickoff return touchdowns for three teams. 3. Pete Weber β PBA Bowling Star
Weber is a Hall of Fame professional bowler from St. Ann and Florissant, who turned pro at 17 and went on to win 37 PBA Tour titles, including 10 majors, five U.S. Open crowns and two PBA Triple Crowns. Known as βPDWβ for his bold, entertaining style, he helped bring mainstream attention to bowling and continues to compete in senior and regional events, remaining one of the sportβs most influential figures. 4. Kendra White β Collegiate Track Star
White was a standout scholar-athlete at McCluer North High School, where she was a multi-time national champion and ranked among the top prep 400-meter runners in the nation. After starting her college career at LSU, she transferred to Iowa State University, where she became a Second Team All-American, a Big 12 Champion and set program records in the 400-meter dash. A chemistry major with aspirations of developing affordable medicines, she concluded her decorated collegiate career as one of the most prolific quarter-milers in Iowa State history. 5. Bob Christian β NFL Fullback (Atlanta Falcons, Chicago Bears, Carolina Panthers)
An elite player at McCluer North High School, Christian transitioned from a record-breaking career at Northwestern University, where he set then-school records for rushing yards, to an 11-season tenure in the NFL. Bob Christian enjoyed an 11-season NFL career with the Falcons, Bears and Panthers, highlighted by an appearance in Super Bowl XXXIII and being named the leagueβs top fullback by Sports Illustrated. The McCluer North star scored the first touchdown in Carolina Panthers history and was a key protector for Jamal Anderson during the Falcons' "Dirty Bird" era.
