Student's Name Used for Award Namesake

When  students normally graduate from high school, they’re remembered for being a class clown, a successful student or a great athlete. For senior Christopher Fry, he’ll be remembered through an award.

Starting next year, one special senior will receive the Christopher Fry Citizenship Award, named for the senior’s character and great citizenship.

“Chris is the namesake of the award because as a staff, we cannot remember a student who has shown as much of a combination of citizenship, kindness and spirit as he has,” Michael Koester, who teachers in the Social Studies department at Hazelwood Central, said in a press release.

During his time at Central, Fry has been known for being involved with the League of Elders, football team managers and helped with Young Ladies of Elegance. He’s known around school as someone with positive attitude, spirit, kindness and a helpful nature.

Rob Skinner, assistant principal, said that Fry was “one of the first kids to talk to me when I came here a few years ago.”

“He is an asset to the school,” he said. “He is the quintessential character education student. He is top notch.”

Last month during the senior awards, Fry received a citizenship and character award that will become his namesake from this point on.

“Chris is a wonderful example for everyone – kids and adults. He is my constant reminder to be kind to everyone that you meet, and to really listen to people when they speak,” Koester said.

“It is teachers like Mr. K who are the reason I came here. I’m glad to get to know everyone here,” Fry said.

“I will always be grateful to Hazelwood Central. I will always be a Central Hawk.”
