Students Graduate From Florissant Police DARE Program

Approximately 1,000 students graduate from area elementary schools.

The announced its recent graduation of close to 1,000 students in its DARE program for the 2011-2012 school year.

Last week, graduated 60 students from the DARE program, according to a press release.

Officers Lessie Summers and Mike Cameron taught dare to fifth graders in 16 schools throughout the city.

“When I teach DARE, I concentrate on teaching the kids to make the right decision, and the consequences of making the wrong decision,” Officer Summers said.

DARE teaches students “to be in charge in certain situations, peer pressure, tobacco, alcohol and marijuana facts, and friendships,” according to the press release.

In fact, according to Officer Summers, several family members of DARE students have been attempting to quit smoking from the information their children are bringing home.
