1st Financial Federal Credit Union will provide
free document shredding services at its Hazelwood, St. Charles, and Wentzville
locations on Saturday, May 3rd from 9 a.m. until 12 p.m. Participants are asked to bring up to five
containers to the event. Food and
refreshments will also be provided.
Identity theft is the fastest growing crime today and dumpster
diving is still one of the most effective tricks identity thieves use to obtain
your information. Old statements, legal
papers, and any materials containing personal records are opportunities for
risk. A big step consumers can take to protect
themselves is by destroying sensitive documents before they reach the trash.
“At 1st Financial, we take data security seriously,” says
Carol Minges, CEO of 1st Financial. “We maintain high
standards of document level security to protect our member’s data and we want
to be able to provide a service that will allow our members to implement
similar standards. Offering a free shred day to our members allows us to
give our members a no cost way to take a step towards better protecting
themselves from identify theft.”
