A team of dancers from Hazelwood East High School will compete in the finals of the St. Louis Teen Talent Showcase on May 6 at 8:00 p.m. at the Fabulous Fox Theatre.
In its first year, the showcase competition process began with more than 50 area schools. The final round features 12 selected acts, including that of Intisar Faulkner, Vesta Greene, Sabrina Harris and Ashle Pegues, in a performance of a contemporary dance routine to βFour Womenβ by Nina Simone.
The girls were nominated for the competition by Robert Swingler, choral director at Hazelwood East, for βbeing the best performance at our schoolβs annual Black History program,β said Faulkner. βHe helped us fill out the paperwork and prepare for the rounds of competition.β
The first-place prize is a $5,000 scholarship and a $2,000 cash prize for the schoolβs performing arts department.Β
