Thirty-five sixth-, seventh- and eighth-grade students from all six (HSD) middle schools participated in a field trip to the Teton Science Schools in Wyoming this summer.
Teton Science Schools tailored a program for the group, based on student interest, grade-level expectations, curriculum and lessons they could learn while in the mountains, such as erosion, seasons and human impact on the environment, according to an HSD statement.
Carrie Launius, the District's learning facilitator who also coordinates science, completed a detailed questionnaire before the trip to help the science staff understand HSD needs and curriculum.

Assistant Superintendent Dr. Steve Sandbothe led the drive to raise awareness and interest in the trip, which took place in June and for which students paid to participate. Sandbothe and Launius asked various teachers to see if they were interested in accompanying students. Launius, Mark Herkenhoff at Hazelwood East Middle School, Karis Jackson at Hazelwood Central Middle School, Leigh Anne Bagley at Hazelwood Northwest Middle School, Scott Kratzer at , Dr. Mark Lamb, who retired from Hazelwood Northwest Middle School and Chris Link at attended.
