Our communities have a critical need for Meals on Wheels volunteers. A new program by Mid-East Area Agency on Aging, Adopt-a-Route, is making it easy for individuals and groups, with a minimal time commitment, to help homebound seniors in Greater St. Louis who need meals.Β

Because of the volunteer shortage, some seniors are not only missing hot, nutritious meals, but also the daily contact they need for companionship and assurance that their other needs are being met. MEAAA Meals on Wheels volunteers not only deliver meals – they are often a lifeline for the needs of our seniors.Β

We have volunteer opportunities to Adopt-a-Route with MEAAA’s Meals on Wheels program. To Adopt-a-Route, an individual shouldΒ e-mail chamacher@mid-eastaaa.org.Β Β  Groups would agree to the following:Β

Form a team of about 4-10 members, including a team leader who would do the scheduling, and have two members scheduled to deliver meals each week. The larger the group, the more infrequently an individual will appear on the delivery schedule.

Β Since routes take about an hour to 90 minutes to deliver, Meals on Wheels requires a small time commitment. But it brings your church members the satisfaction of serving people in need, as well as providing a fun fellowship-building opportunity. Delivering meals can also enhance your group'sΒ  image in the community while developing much-needed leadership skills in your members.
