Presentations, Resources at "A Celebration of Life"

The Missouri Botanical Garden in St. Louis is the site again for the 16th annual β€œA Celebration of Life” event that will attract hundreds of older adults and their families on Oct.10.

The festivities begin at 9 a.m. when individuals will have an opportunity to visit with more than 45 exhibitors, get flu shots, free health screenings, and enjoy entertainment. In addition to five cash drawings scheduled throughout the day, two Kindle Fire tablet computers have been added as grand prizes.

Activities in Shoenberg Auditorium are kicked off at 10 a.m. with a welcome by Mayor of St. Louis Francis G. Slay. β€œCan Alzheimer Disease Be Prevented” will be presented by Dr. John Morris at 10:30 a.m., and AARP Associate State Director for Community Outreach Sheila Holm will address You’ve Earned a Say at 11:30 a.m. Attendees will be treated to a teaser viewing of the film Age of Champions about senior Olympians before adjournment of the day.

Activities in the Beaumont room will begin with flu vaccinations given by the Visiting Nurses Association at 9 a.m. and continue with John & Doe and music from the β€˜40s, β€˜50s and β€˜60s.

Admission is free to St. Louis City and County residents from 9 a.m. until Noon. After 12 noon, admission is $4 per person; nonresidents must pay $8 all day.

"A Celebration of Life" was initiated by a group of local AARP Missouri volunteers more than 15 years ago. The event has evolved to include numerous community-basedΒ organizations and entities that provide services and resources to older adults.

Premier event sponsors are: AARP Missouri, Missouri Botanical Garden, Dignity Memorial, Essence Healthcare, Nepute Wellness, St. Louis Area Agency on Aging, and Wellcare.
