Did you know that 9.4% of students nationwide have been hit, slapped, or physically hurt on purpose by their boyfriend or girlfriend? A majority of the public does not consider teen dating violence an issue, mostly due to a lack of knowledge on the subject.
This February is Teen Dating Violence Awareness Month. To help promote awareness of teen dating violence, Verizon Wireless has donated $5,000 to Safe Connection’s Project HART.
Safe Connections is a St. Louis-area nonprofit organization specializing in preventing and ending domestic and sexual violence. Through education, crisis intervention, counseling and support services, Safe Connections works to reduce the impact and incidence of relationship violence and sexual assault.

Since 1987, Safe Connections’ Project HART (Healthy Alternatives for Relationships among Teens)has reached over 137,500 students in the metropolitan St. Louis area. The program is designed to promote safety, respect, and healthy dating relationships among middle and high school students. Project HART consists of a 12-session curriculum, which addresses teen dating violence through discussions and activities with the goal of supporting young people in developing relationships free from violence.
