Red Cross Assisting Families Throughout St. Louis Region After Storms

**SHELTER REMAINS OPEN AT HAZELWOOD CIVIC CENTER AT 8969 DUNN ROAD

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to dozens of residents throughout the region following the storms.

A 24-hour Red Cross shelter remains open at this time at the Hazelwood Civic Center at 8969 Dunn Road, where staff and volunteers are providing food and shelter to displaced residents. Open since this morning, a few dozen people have visited the shelter for meals and snacks, a warm place to stay and emotional support. Casework for affected families will begin once the shelter is closed.
Overnight, six people spent the night at a separate shelter at Armstrong Elementary School.

Today, Red Cross disaster responders completed damage assessment throughout the area. They found 52 homes destroyed and 14 with major damage. A Hazelwood apartment complex also suffered serious damage. The storm ripped the roofs off of several of the buildings; 48 units are destroyed. Disaster responders also canvassed South St. Louis, and found major damage.

In Franklin County, Missouri, the Red Cross is providing food, clothing and shelter to several affected families. 35 trailer homes are inaccessible and without power.

In Piasa Harbor in Godfrey, IL, the Red Cross is assisting several families with immediate needs such as food, clothing and shelter as well, after the storm damaged that area.
