City Council Approves 2013 Real Estate, Personal Property Tax Rates

Hazelwood City Council also set the sewer lateral service line repair fee for the year.

Hazelwood residents should expect to pay the same rates they paid last year for real estate and personal property taxes, as well as the sewer lateral service line repair feeΒ in 2013.

Hazelwood CityΒ Council approved the measure at Wednesday's council meeting. The proposed rates and fee were introduced at the Aug. 21 Hazelwood City Council meeting. AΒ public meeting was held prior to the hearing, at which no one spoke for or against the set rates.

At the hearing, the interim city manager, Bob Frank, said the City of Hazelwood’s total assessed valuation is $559,698,455 for 2013. Of that,Β $60,000,000 encompasses tax increment finance (TIF) areas.

Frank, whoΒ mentioned the city isΒ ranked 11 of 90 cities in the St. Louis County, said with 2013 being aΒ reassessment year the rates could be changed should the HazelwoodΒ Board of Equalization make thatΒ determination.Β

City council approved Frank's recommendation to keep theΒ 2013 tax rates unchanged from 2012 set amount at a total of 10.2 percent. The means theΒ residential real estateΒ tax willΒ at the maximum of $.767 per $100. TheΒ commercialΒ real estate taxΒ will remainΒ at the maximum of $.77 per $100, and theΒ agriculturalΒ real estate taxΒ will stayΒ at the maximum of $.778 per $100. Personal property tax will stayΒ at $.754 per $100.

The sewer lateral service line repair fee will remain at $5, althoughΒ the maximum voter approved levy for the fee is $28. The City of Hazelwood remains one of the lower sewer lateral line fees in the county.
