End of War: America Pulls out of Iraq Thursday
The war, which began nine years ago, ended Thursday with a small flag ceremony.
The Iraq War ended on a sunny Thursday with a quaint ceremony in Baghdad, which many are comparing to the way America entered the war in 2003, guns blazing at night.
U.S. troops lowered the flag of command that flew over the Iraqi capital, rolled it and cased it in camouflage in accordance with Army tradition.
The war was Justified by then President George W. Bush on the grounds that Saddam Hussein was seeking weapons of mass destruction that he could share with terrorists such as al Qaeda. CNN has a slideshow documenting eight years of war.

Here's a few facts on the Iraq war:
- Terms of War: Improvised explosive device or IED became a household term.
- Cost of War: In all, the United States spent more than $800 billion in Iraq.
- Dead Soldiers: 4,500 Americans were killed in the war.
- Wounded Soldiers: More than 30,000 Americans were wounded.
- Iraq Body Count: The organization has compiled reports of more than 150,000 Iraqis killed between the invasion and October 2010, with four out of five dead being civilians.
- 2007: Was the height of the war when Bush ordered a "surge," more than 170,000 American troops were stationed in Iraq, living on more than 500 bases and outposts across the nation.
- 4,000: The number of troops that will remain in Kuwait for some months. The troops will be able to help finalize the move out of Iraq, but could also be used as a quick reaction force if needed, according to the Associated Press
- Troops in Iraq this year: 50,000
- Long Road for the Country: On Wednesday, thousands of people in the mostly Sunni town of Fallujah, where Marines fought the biggest battle of the war in 2004, took to the streets to celebrate, according to the Washington Post. They burned American and Israeli flags, and carried a banner declaring Fallujah to be βthe city of resistance.β
