Hazelwood Area Firefighters Get A Taste of Movie-Stardom

Local firefighter paramedics Veronica Novel and Jeff Rudloff star in a training video that will be used to train paramedics throughout the region.

Two Hazelwood area firefighters and paramedics got a taste of movie-stardom when they recently spent a day taping a training video for the Sanders-Mosby Paramedic Textbook, which is used to help train paramedics.

Veronica Novel, a firefighter and paramedic, starred in the video as the patient who was being treated in an emergency medical situation.

β€œWe consider it an honor for one of our Hazelwood firefighter paramedics to be chosen to be on-camera talent for this paramedic textbook,” said Tim Davidson, communications coordinator for the City of Hazelwood.

Captain Jeff Rudloff of the , which also serves part of Hazelwood, was featured in the video as the responding paramedic.

Davidson said that the two were chosen based on their strong performances with their respective departments, and that this was good news for Hazelwood residents.

β€œThe fact that we had another firefighter paramedic from the Robertson Fire Protection District that also covers the City of Hazelwood indicates the caliber of emergency responders we have to respond to medical emergency calls in our community,” Davidson said.

In the video, which focused on intramuscular drug administration and subcutaneous drug administration, Novel sat on a stretcher while Rudloff administered three intravenous shot injections as the camera zoomed in to catch every detail.

Visiontracks, a prominent Fenton-based multimedia company, produced the video. The company’s producers were reportedly pleased with the outcome of the video and Davidson said they told Novel and Rudloff that they did a professional job in their acting debuts.

Elsevier publishes the textbook, which is known as the world’s leading provider of science and health care information. Two of the best-known authors for paramedics were also onsite for the session, Davidson said.

The video and the others in the series will appear in the next edition of the Sanders-Mosby Paramedic Textbook Davidson said.

β€œThis paramedic textbook (will) be used by all paramedics in the region as a way to help them train for what they do with emergency medical care.”
