Kick It Like Casagrande: Former Hazelwood West Soccer Star Wins First-Ever Weekly Conference Award
Maryville University senior Jena Casagrande, who earned a 4.0 GPA during her remarkable career at West, is once again amazing fans and coaches on the college field.

Maryville University senior soccer player, Jena Casagrande, was named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Womenβs Soccer Player of the week on Sept. 24.
Casagrande grew up in Florissant and attended Hazelwood West High School. Casagrande committed to Maryville Universityβs soccer program as a senior at West.
βCasagrande posted back-to-back shutouts in 220 minutes in the cage against McKendree and No. 19 Rockhurst last week,β said assistant commissioner Jeff Smith in a post on the GLVCSports.com site. βIn Wednesdayβs make-up contest from a postponed Sept. 7 game due to severe weather, Casagrande recorded three saves in a double-overtime scoreless tie against McKendree, a team that was 3-1 at the time and now 4-1-1 in GLVC play.β

Casagrande was the first Maryville student to win a weekly conference award in womenβs soccer, Smith added.
During her career at Hazelwood West, Casagrande was a two-time all-conference selection, a second-team all-conference selection in her sophomore season and received honorable mentionΒ as an all-conference honoree during her freshman season. She was also a member of the 2008 District Champion team.

Casagrandeβs not just an athlete; sheβs also a scholar. At Hazelwood West, she received the All-Academic Athlete award for earning a 4.0 GPA and earned a Cum Laude award.
