Power Outage Remains Problem in North County Area
Thousands remained without power as of Sunday morning in Hazelwood.
The Friday night storm that pummeled through North County has continued to leave thousands without power throughout the area.
As of early Sunday morning, less than 10,000 remained without power throughout the area including more than 4,000 throughout Hazelwood, according to the Ameren outage map.
The Red Cross set up a shelter at the James J. Eagan Center in Florissant Saturday afternoon for those in need.
The Florissant Police Department posted on Facebook Saturday that a damaged Ameren facility in Maryland Heights was the cause of a lot of the power outage in North County. At that time, it was estimated 24-36 hours before power could be restored.
Despite the stormy weekend, Hazelwood School District seniors will be excited today with graduation day finally here. A power outage at the University of Missouri-St. Louis campus halted graduation ceremonies Saturday.
Each school’s graduation will proceed in the Mark Twain building at the set time Sunday as follows:
- Hazelwood East Senior High School, 10 a.m.
- Hazelwood West Senior High School, 2:30 p.m.
- Hazelwood Central Senior High School, 7 p.m.
