1. Thelma's Kitchen closes main space temporarily as leaders plan next steps (kctv5.com) — If you rely on Thelma's Kitchen at 31st and Troost, its main dining space in Kansas City is temporarily closed while leaders rethink how best to serve neighbors. Take-home meals are still available through Reconciliation Services using existing Pay It Forward tokens, and the nonprofit is asking residents to complete an online survey to help shape next year's reopening plans.
2. KCMO City Council approves start of construction on Roy Blunt Luminary Park (kshb.com) — Kansas City's council has approved starting construction on Phase 1 of Roy Blunt Luminary Park, the new urban park that will deck over part of I-670 between the Crossroads and downtown. The nearly $200 million project will build major tunnel infrastructure and one full public space near the Convention Center, using a mix of city, state and federal funding.
3. Juvenile suffered serious injuries Thursday night when he ran stop sign on his electric dirt bike and hit car. (kshb.com) — A juvenile riding an electric dirt bike was seriously hurt in a Thursday night crash at Northeast 78th Street and North Park Avenue in Kansas City's Northland after running a stop sign and hitting a car. Police say his injuries are serious but not life-threatening, and they're reminding residents they can share crime tips anonymously through Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers.
4. Cleaver relieved, Brattin vows lawsuit after Missouri Supreme Court redistricting ruling (kshb.com) — Kansas City–area voters are keeping their current congressional map for November after the Missouri Supreme Court rejected a mid-decade redistricting push, a move welcomed by Rep. Emanuel Cleaver and condemned by his challenger, Rick Brattin. State officials and candidates are now weighing appeals to the U.S. Supreme Court and potential new lawsuits, while emphasizing what the ruling means for voter representation across Missouri.
