Today's riddle: Where do math teachers go on vacation? 🤔 (Answer below!)
1. Kansas City Zoo works to keep animals and guests cool in excessive heat (fox4kc.com) — If you're planning a trip to the Kansas City Zoo this weekend, staff are adjusting animal care and offering plenty of air-conditioned spaces to keep both animals and guests safe in the extreme heat. Leaders suggest arriving early, when temperatures are lower and animals like Nuniq the polar bear are most active, and taking frequent breaks indoors to avoid prolonged time in the 90-degree weather.
2. Man critically wounded in shooting Friday night in east Kansas City, Missouri (kshb.com) — A man is in critical condition after being shot in the head late Friday near East 24th Street and Hardesty Avenue in east Kansas City. Police have not released suspect information and are asking anyone with tips to contact Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers anonymously, where qualifying information could earn a cash reward.
3. Kontravoid Announces New Album "Sound of the Void — Listen to New Track "Without" — Post-Punk.com (post-punk.com) — Kontravoid's new album "Sound of the Void" drops on October 2, the same night the darkwave artist's North American tour hits Encore at Uptown Theater in Kansas City. Fans here can catch the co-headlining show with Buzz Kull, hear new tracks like "Without" live, and choose from digital, CD, or vinyl editions that begin rolling out that day.
4. Kirk, Clement and Springer each drive in 2 runs as Blue Jays beat Royals 9-2 to reach .500 (kshb.com) — Kansas City Royals fans saw the team fall 9-2 at home Friday night as the Toronto Blue Jays' bats broke out, with Alejandro Kirk, Ernie Clement and George Springer each driving in two runs. Royals starter Daniel Lynch IV struggled early before settling in, while Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino provided Kansas City's lone home runs ahead of Saturday's matchup.
5. Missouri Attorney General appeals to United States Supreme Court in congressional map case (kshb.com) — Missouri's attorney general is asking the U.S. Supreme Court to reinstate new congressional maps that state judges blocked just weeks before the midterm election, affecting which districts appear on November's ballot. One of the biggest flashpoints is a Kansas City-based seat long held by Democrat Emanuel Cleaver, which was redrawn to strengthen Republican chances statewide.
