• Kansas City South Side Gunfire Kills Victim On Labor Day 2026 (tonyskansascity.com) — A man died after being shot Monday afternoon outside an apartment building in the 8000 block of East 88th Terrace in south Kansas City and police have detained a subject of interest. Detectives are investigating the homicide and urge anyone with information to call KCPD's homicide unit or the anonymous TIPS Hotline, which offers up to a $25,000 reward.
   

• Jackson County executive suggests 'Square Saturday' event to make up for canceled SantaCaliGon Day (fox4kc.com subscription) — Jackson County Executive Phil LeVota, based in Kansas City, is proposing a free "Square Saturday" event in Independence to help SantaCaliGon Days vendors recoup losses after storms damaged the festival and forced early closure across the Kansas City metro. Local vendors are reporting major setbacks, and county and Independence leaders are exploring ways to give them another sales day this fall.
