Fredrick Scott trial: Witnesses describe finding body of Mike Darby on KC trail (fox4kc.com) — Jurors in Kansas City heard detailed testimony about the 2017 killing of bar owner Mike Darby, whose body was found on the Indian Creek Trail with his two dogs nearby. Witnesses, detectives, and crime scene investigators described surveillance footage, evidence, and links to several other nearby homicides as prosecutors continue building their case against accused killer Fredrick Scott.
   

2. Pedestrian hit by vehicle while trying to cross U.S. 40 Highway Tuesday in Kansas City, Missouri (kshb.com) — A pedestrian was critically injured Tuesday afternoon while crossing U.S. 40 Highway near White Avenue in east Kansas City after being struck by a westbound Hyundai whose driver stayed at the scene. Police say the victim has life-threatening injuries and urge anyone with information to contact Kansas City police or share anonymous tips through Greater Kansas City Crime Stoppers.
   

3. African American Film Critics Association Supports Black Film Hall of Fame with $25,000 Donation (yve-style.com) — Kansas City's Black Film Hall of Fame, a museum and multicultural center founded in 2003, just received a $25,000 boost from the African American Film Critics Association to support its work preserving Black cinema. Local film lovers can expect this partnership to strengthen programming and recognition for Black filmmakers, even as national buzz builds around the 25th-anniversary re-release of cult favorite "Donnie Darko."
   

4. Missouri group files emergency order to hold secretary of state in contempt (fox4kc.com) — A Missouri group based in Kansas City is asking the state Supreme Court to hold Secretary of State Denny Hoskins in contempt over plans to use the 2025 congressional map in November's election. Their emergency filing clashes with a recent federal ruling that also orders use of that map, intensifying the legal tug-of-war over which districts voters will see on their ballots.
