Kansas City Transit Operators Earn Statewide Recognition

For thousands of Missourians, a transit operator is more than a driver. They are a trusted link to work, healthcare, groceries and daily life essentials, helping riders maintain their independence and stay connected to their communities. To honor operators who consistently go above and beyond in serving their riders, the Missouri Public Transit Association (MPTA) presented Missouri Transit Operator Champion Awards to two operators from the Kansas City area during the 2026 Missouri Transit Conference.

"Transit operators are the backbone of public transportation systems, working diligently every day to ensure riders can safely and reliably reach the places they need to go," said Kimberly Cella, executive director of the MPTA. "Their efforts often extend far beyond transportation, and these awards recognize the exceptional dedication, compassion and service they provide to their communities."

The transit operators honored in the Kansas City area were all nominated by their employer and include:

Golden Banks of KC Streetcar, who joined a new class of Streetcar Operators in 2026 and was recognized for quickly proving himself to be a reliable, professional and invaluable member of the team. During his first year, Banks has earned a reputation as a dependable teammate who consistently steps up when needed. He went above and beyond by supporting KC Streetcar during the unprecedented summer of the FIFA World Cup in Kansas City, covering extra shifts week after week to help keep service moving during the busiest period in KC Streetcar history. Banks has demonstrated exceptional flexibility and dedication over the past several months, approaching each day with a calm and collected demeanor while maintaining the high level of service riders depend on. His professionalism, commitment and willingness to support the team make him a valued member of KC Streetcar, and the organization looks forward to many more years of his contributions.

Andric Poole, who has been an outstanding bus operator since joining the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority in 2005 and was recognized for more than 20 years of dedicated service and commitment. Throughout his career, Poole has consistently displayed a positive attitude, strong work ethic and willingness to assist others. In addition to his responsibilities as a bus operator, he has assisted with operator training and played a valuable role during a fare rollout, helping fellow operators understand and successfully adapt to new procedures. Poole has represented the agency with professionalism and pride while maintaining a strong commitment to his career. Determined to continue growing and contributing, he remains a valued asset to the agency, and his years of service, positive attitude and willingness to support fellow employees are greatly appreciated.
