Patriot the Eagle, from the World Bird Sanctuary, joined the celebration

CHESTERFIELD (May 23, 2013) — On May 23, Bob Hajek, from Kirkwood, received the Patriot Award from the National Guard in honor of his support for company veterans returning to the workplace. Hajek, an Operations Supervisor with Missouri American Water, was nominated by SGT Ray King.

Walter Crawford, a Vietnam Veteran and founder of the World Bird Sanctuary, attended the ceremony with two rescued bald eagles to pay tribute to the veterans.

Only five percent of employers have received this award, which honors people in the workplace who have helped returning soldiers in their transition back to work. Patriot Award recipients must be nominated by a Guard or Reserve member or family member. The Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) promotes understanding and support between employers and their National Guard and Reserve employees.
