For the first time in the St. Louis region, the Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri (GSEM) will ring up cookie sales by accepting credit cards on mobile phones with Square. AT&T equipped the GSEM with devices for the pilot program. The secure credit card reader attaches to a smartphone, allowing troops to accept debit/credit cards and email receipts to customers on-the-spot. The high-tech cookie booths will continue for three consecutive weekends, ending March 17.
