Rep Rick Stream Recognized for Community College Support

A local legislator was recognized for his support of community colleges at the St. Louis Community College’s recent Board of Trustees meeting. 

Mo. Rep. Rick Stream (R-Dist. 90) received the Missouri Community College Association’s Distinguished Legislator Award at the meeting. The awards were presented to legislators statewide by the MCCA to recognize their support for their local community college and others throughout the state during the recent MCCA Convention in Kansas City. Stream was unable to attend. 

Stream received his award from Zora Mulligan, MCCA’s executive director, STLCC Chancellor Myrtle Dorsey and Libby Fitzgerald, STLCC’s board chair. 

Stream, who recently was elected to his fourth term in the Missouri House of Representatives, is a graduate of STLCC-Meramec. He will serve as the chair of the House Budget Committee in the upcoming session. 

“I was one of eight kids and we had zero money,” said Stream, who earned his associate degree in business. “Thankfully, the college was in Kirkwood, and six of eight went to Meramec and earned degrees. 

“I want to thank everyone associated with the Missouri Community College Association for providing kids with a quality education,” he added. “I got a good one 40-plus years ago, and students are getting it as well today. Never give up on a class, and work hard. Classes I took were life changers down the road. Finish the job.”
