The Beachfront Moves to Kirkwood
The Magic House opens popular exhibit, Sandcastle Beach now through June 30.
Not many bloggers in St. Louis can say they are writing their blog from the beach while in their home town – but I get to say that this month! Sandcastle Beach is now open right here in Kirkwood at The Magic House! Back by popular demand, the exhibit patio has transformed once again into a beachfront park with nearly 200 tons of sand – including a 75-ton Sandcastle! Visitors can take a stroll along the boardwalk, search for some seashells at the shell dig, relax under a colorful beach umbrella and build a sandcastle along-side world-champion sand sculptor Dan Belcher!
A native St. Louisan, Belcher received his Bachelor of Landscape Architecture from Kansas State University. He has traveled the world creating gigantic sand sculptures and has won numerous awards for his creations. Dan will be an artist in residence from May 16 through June 2 while he completes the sandcastle. This year’s fairytale themed sculpture will make the ninth magnificent sandcastle that Belcher has created for The Magic House.
Sandcastle Beach is sponsored by Prairie Farms Dairy and North Star Frozen Treats and is free with regular admission of $9.50 per person. Sandcastle Beach closes one hour prior to normal Museum hours and will be open through June 30. It’s just another day at the beach at The Magic House!
