Schools in the Kirkwood area rely on Lexile scores to help children understand their reading level and match them with an appropriate book. Therefore, there are often times that parents come into the children's area looking for help to find a book within their child's range, not always knowing where to start. KPL does not label each book with a Lexile score, but there are still some great resources we can point you to, to help narrow your search. Novelist is a resource you can access from KPL’s home page, that through the advanced search option allows you to limit your search to a Lexile score range, subject and grade level. If you want to access Novelist from home simply go to the link from KPL’s homepage and type in your library card number to access the site. Another great resource is Lexile’s own website Lexile.com. This option allows you to search for books based on a lexile score and grade level, but also by a book itself. These sites do not directly link to our catalog, but by providing a list of books within your child’s Lexile range they can save a lot of time and allow you to simply check our catalog for the titles. For more question feel free to contact the children’s room at 314-821-5770 ext 1015.
