Entries Sought For Kirkwood Human Rights Commission Essay Contest
The contest is open to high school juniors in public, private and home schools.

The Kirkwood Human Rights Commission will once again hold an Essay Contest for high school juniors in public, private and home schools, located within the City limits of Kirkwood R7 School District.

Essay Topic: Young people have emerged as a force in political and social activism in recent times. Considering all that has happened in 2020, in what ways do you see your generation having an impact on human rights and/or equality for the future of this country and world?
Who can participate: The contest is open to all 11th grade students enrolled at Kirkwood High School, Vianney High School, or Ursuline Academy, all 11th grade Kirkwood residents enrolled elsewhere, and all 11th grade home-schooled students residing in Kirkwood.

Essay Rules: The essay should be 500 to 750 words in length, typed, double-spaced, in 12-font size, with one-inch margins. The pages should be numbered, and the author’s name should appear at the top of each page. The author’s name, address, telephone number, age, and high school should be on the first page.
Judging Criteria:
- Thematic Maturity: How the essay demonstrates the ability to write in a logical, organized manner that easily and efficiently conveys meaning.
- Content: How the essay expresses ideas that are substantive and workable.
- Communication: The essay’s content should be understandable with good sentence and paragraph construction, attention paid to spelling and grammar, and formatted according to the instructions given.
Submit: Essays can be submitted in hard copy or by email. If by email, submissions will only be accepted as an attachment. Do not send in the body of the email or as a Cloud-based document. Hard copies can be submitted by mail or in person to Kim Sansegraw, City of Kirkwood Administration Department, 139 S. Kirkwood Road, 63122. Emails should be sent to: sansegkr@kirkwoodmo.org.
Deadline: All essays must be received no later than 4:00 p.m., on Friday February 12, 2021.
