Give Me Liberty! Democracy and the Middle East

Join us for a very compelling conversation

University Center, Sunnen Lounge Webster University

As always, the pizza's on us; the opinions are all yours!

Here's why this topic matters:

As governments begin to change in Iraq and Afghanistan through the assistance of the United States Military, other countries in the the Middle East have begun to take notice. How can the United States play a role in helping to forge and support genuine democracies in the Middle East? How should the U.S. be involved?

Now having the opportunity for more freedom in religion, rights, law, etc. in both Iraq and Afghanistan, other countries have begun to exercise the right of protesting to seek change as well. It is critical to look at countries claiming to be democracies when really the governments may be run differently. For instance, Iran claims to be a democracy and yet does not always abide by the freedoms that have been put into place.

In a country such as the United States, where Democracy has existed for many years, it is important for us to pay attention and understand what is taking place in other countries that are working to achieve similar freedoms of the United States.

Join us as we explore these policy issues in a discussion with CAIR-St. Louis Exec Director Faizan Syed & Dr. Morris Kalliny, St Louis University.
