Despite the attention heaven and hell receive in popular religious conversation,these concepts have only a limited role in the Bible.When used biblically, heaven and hell refer not to places to but to states of relationship with God.In this class,we will explore 4 biblical stories related to these concepts:The Garden(Gen 2-3),the beginning and end of the story of Job;the gospel of Matthew's notion of the "kingdom of heaven,"and the conclusion of Revelation about the "new heaven and new earth."
