St. Louis, Mo. – May 20, 2013 . . . Inner Jazz continues its interfaith meditative jazz series with “The Reality of Dreams” at 5 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at Kirkwood United Church of Christ, 1603 Dougherty Ferry Rd. St. Louis, MO.
Performing at Inner Jazz will be the Oîkos Ensemble under the direction of saxophonist, Rev. Cliff Aerie with special guest vocalist, Danita Mumphard. One of St. Louis’ most acclaimed jazz vocalists, the Riverfront Times says, “This lady’s got soul: she has an extraordinary name to complement an extraordinary talent . . . Danita Mumphard!” Online Jazz Review says “Danita has a beautiful sound and moves through her range with tremendous fluidity.”
Inner Jazz is a unique blend of jazz, storytelling, the arts, and meditation exploring timely themes from an interfaith perspective. Inner Jazz is the creation of the Cliff Aerie who leads the Oîkos Ensemble as part of his national jazz ministry based in St. Louis. “I’m thrilled to have Danita singing with us again,” says Aerie. “She is truly one of a kind, bringing artistry and spirit together. It’s a delight to collaborate with her.”
Inner Jazz co-host, the Rev. Betsy Happel, pastor of Kirkwood United Church of Christ brings her own poetic spirit to this monthly event. “I’m particularly excited about this month’s theme,” she says. “Everyone of us has hopes and dreams for our lives. But bringing dreams to reality requires persistent faith, vision and often times, courage. During our hour together we’ll also be exploring global dreams, creatively bringing harmony and affirmation to a world that needs wholeness and peace.”
Inner Jazz is open to everyone who enjoys great music, embraces imaginative possibilities, and seeks spiritual kinship with others. No reservations are required, and ample parking is available. A free-will offering will be received to help support the artistry of the musicians.
