The Webster Jazz Faculty present "Cool Struttin'; Soulful Sounds from Blue Note Records"

The Webster Jazz Faculty will open the 2012-13 Webster Jazz Series with the program "Cool Struttin'; Soulful Sounds from Blue Note Records" on Monday, September 10 at 7 p.m. in the Winifred Moore Auditorium, Webster University, 470 E. Lockwood Ave. The concert will feature some of the more blues and groove-oriented hard bop fare recorded on the flagship jazz label in the 1960's. This type of repertoire proved to be some most popular in the label's seventy-three year history. The cost is $5 at the door. Pieces to be performed will include "The Sidewinder," "Fat Head" and "Calling Miss Khadija" by Lee Morgan; "Doodlin'" and "Sister Sadie" by Horace Silver; "Moanin'" and "Dat Dere" by Bobby Timmons and "Cantaloupe Island" by Herbie Hancock.

The faculty ensemble includes Debby Lennon-vocals, Keith Moyer-trumpet, Paul DeMarinis-tenor saxophone, Steve Schenkel-guitar, Kim Portnoy-piano, Willem von Hombracht-bass and Kevin Gianino-drums.
