Five Kirkwood-Area Students Make National Merit Semifinals
Students from Kirkwood High and Vianney are in the running for a National Merit scholarship.

National Merit Scholarship CorporationΒ released their list ofΒ semifinalists this weekΒ for scholarships to be awarded next spring.
The scholarships, granted to about 8,000 students total, are based on academic achievements of current high school seniors who took the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship QualifyingΒ Test (PSAT/NMSQT) as a junior. Student scores and applications are considered in the selection process.
Out of about 16,000 semifinalists nationwide, five students are from schools in Kirkwood:
- Ellen Heaghney, Kirkwood High
- Ian P. Huffman, Kirkwood High
- Jack A. Lyons, Vianney
- Anthony W. Schrader, Vianney
- Madeline R. Sponholtz, Kirkwood High
