Kirkwood Public Library Sets Summer Reading Record

Kirkwood is a community of readers

Kirkwood Public Library’s Summer Reading program brought us a plethora of readers! Wow, what a summer! The program was 12 weeks long and 1,566 children read 36,151 hours, 398 teens read 13,580 hours and 313 adults read 2,890 books. 81 babies and toddlers participated in our first Baby Reading program. Thank you to all our readers!

The top three books read for ages Pre-K-3 were: 1. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone by J.K. Rowling 2. Ivy and Bean by Annie Barrows and 3. The Cricket in Times Square by George Seldon. For grades 4 and up, the top three titles were: 1. Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry, 2. The Son of Neptune by Rick Riordan and 3. Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney. For teens, the top most read books were: 1. Peter and the Starcatchers by Dave Barry, 2. The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton, and 3. The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. And last but certainly not least, the top three books read by adults in Kirkwood this summer were: 1. Inferno by Dan Brown, 2. The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and 3. Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn.
