KPL Celebrates Classical Music Month

September is Classical Music Month. Kirkwood Public Library has a wide selection of classical CDs available for checkout here.  Below is a list of a few classically inclined items that can be found at the library. Please add your favorite classical pieces and albums in the comment section!

The American Album by the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra

This is one of my favorite classical music CDs of all time. I listen to it every patriotic holiday and for fun. The two best tracks are “Fanfare for the Common Man” which always makes me contemplative and the “Rodeo: Hoedown” is a fun upbeat piece!

The Slatkin Years by Leornard Slatkin

Listen to the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra without getting dressed up and going to Powell Symphony Hall. It is a 6 CD set with tracks ranging from Mendelssohn to Beethoven to Mahler.

An awesome compilation!

Toon Time: Classical Music from Classic Cartoons

Fun for all ages! Enjoy “The Nutcracker Suite”, “The Rite of Spring-The Sacrifice”, and the “Flight of the Bumblebee”.

Chiller by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra

Halloween is a great time for classical music. This CD is sure to send a shiver down your spine including “Night on Bald Mountain”, “Funeral March of a Marionette”, and “In the Hall of the Mountain King”.

Fantasia

A classic Disney animated film that combines music with visually striking images and a visit from Mickey Mouse!
