Women’s Contraceptive Rights Discussed Tonight in Kirkwood
"The War on Women-The Politics of Contraception" is the title of the lecture held today at the Kirkwood Community Center by a St. Louis Community College Professor.

will be held today at 7 p.m. at the .
The event is sponsored by the Bonhomme Township Democrats, a Democratic group that encompasses Des Peres, Fenton, Kirkwood, Oakland and Sunset Hills.
Kathy Ratino, communications instructor at St. Louis Community College, will lead the discussion and try to answer the question of why women's contraception has become a hot-button topic again.
Jean Loemker, the event’s coordinator for Bonhomme Democrats, said the main goal of the event is education. She said last week, the Missouri legislature passed bill SB-749, a which limits women’s access to contraception if the employer considers it goes against his or her religious beliefs.
“It’s really a step backward,” Loemker said. “For the past 38 years women have had contraceptive coverage. We must raise awareness about this pressing issue.”
Lemker said state lawmakers have been invited to attend the event, which is free and open to the public.
