Ladue Soccer wins 17-0 In Game Shortened to a Half

The Rules of the Road. The high school soccer rules state clearly, if one team leads by 10 or more goals at halftime, the game is over.

Ladue scored 11 times in the first 14 minutes of play and raced past Normandy 17-0 to open the season.

“I can’t ask the girls not to score or pass off when they have an opportunity” said Ladue’s coach Dave Aronberg. “I don’t like running up scores. We had defenders playing up. There wasn’t much else we could do.”

Ladue, which went 13-12-1 last season has high hopes and expectations in 2013.

Road tripping to Quincy

The Rams were off to Quincy this morning to play three games in a tournament in Illinois. “This is a good chance for us to do some team bonding,” said the coach. One of the players was hosting a team pasta dinner at her parent’s home after the opening game.

Host Quincy, Moberly and Bloomington, IL make up the four-team field.

Normandy has just 11 players who dress out, so no one was sitting on the bench. Last year, Ladue beat the Lady Vikings, 7-0.

Freshman Lizzy Puyo enjoyed her baptism of fire, scoring four goals. Abby Shapiro, a senior forward scored three times in the white wash.

Maria Vetter, who scored the 14th goal thinks Ladue will be really solid this season.

“Going to Quincy will be good. We will get our touches in, and begin to figure out where we are as a team.

In past we just got break-away scoring. This time, we used overlaps and a lot of passing to set up the scoring and back throughs,” said Vetter.

Natasha Medler, a junior forward was glad to be out of doors, and playing. “It’s good in one way. At least we got a lot of practice. I’m really excited, and think this year will be very good season.”

Coach Aronberg is looking forward to the trip. “It’s a short one, but we do the same trip with the boys team. This gives us a chance to come together as a team.

“Our top three scorers are back. This is a team that can score. We will see how we defend.”

Fran Shannon, the goalie won the team award for this game. “She’s third, fourth on the career shutout list,” said her coach.

Ladue’s scoring: Lizzy Puyo, 4 goals; Abby Shapiro 3 goals; Lea Jarrett, 2 goals; solo goals by Allie Taniuchi, Mariana Alisio, Emma Weller, Ana Hartig, Grace Waldman, Medler, Vetter and Jennifer Lesorogol.
