Purses for Pooches and Pals

Humane Society of Missouri event will benefit the ones who cannot speak for themselves.

Who doesn’t desire a great glass of wine, some gourmet munchies, and a beautiful purse? Did we mention networking with other women and meeting some wonderful animals waiting for that special someone to take them home?

The Humane Society of Missouri, 1201 Macklind Ave., is  holding its sixth Purses for Pooches and Pals event on Thursday, June 30, at the Society’s headquarters from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Plaza Frontenac retailers have banded together to provide gorgeous designer purses and shoes to raffle. Those retailers include Kate Spade, J. Crew, Crewcuts, Nieman Marcus, Eileen Fisher, Cole Haan, Coach, and others.

Jessica Stegan, special events and marketing coordination for HMSO, said The Kate Spade and Coach stores within Plaza Frontenac also donated purses. Ylang Ylang donated a beautiful necklace from their Love Heals collection for our Silent Auction.

“Eileen Fisher has been especially generous to the event,” she said. “Not only have they donated a purse but they also help coordinate the event preview on June 4th, contributed coupons and goody bags for each of our event participants, as well as coordinated with other stores and businesses to solicit additional contributions.”

Harika Fava, manager of Eileen Fisher at Plaza Frontenac, and Purses for Pooches and Pals committee member, said “I love dogs and cats, and for me, this is fabulous because you’re giving awareness to the community about the needs of dogs and cats, and you get satisfaction from helping these animals. The Humane Society needs help all the time. It makes you feel great inside. The animals don’t have a voice, and you speak for them.”

She said they are expecting 400 to 500 people. The last event in 2010 raised $71,000 including sponsors and underwriters.

“It’s a great evening. You go with your friends. You meet other people and the bottom line is that we’re helping the animals,” Fava said.
