KITTENS! KITTENS! In my hair! KITTENS! KITTENS! EVERYWHERE!

Placing two shelter kittens with a friend's daughter - yea!

I have a friend whose just-turned-12 year old daughter lost her childhood cat of 10 years of age last year, unfortunately while she was away, visiting her grandmother in VA.  It was quite hard on her.  Death and lost is never easy, no matter what age one is, or what the circumstances are.

Her mom decreed that it was OK for her to get a new kitten, and her dad asked me what was better - one or two?  Believing in buddies being good company when people are away for hours all day at school and at work, of course, I said TWO!

And then set out sending feelers for kittens.

In my line of work, it is always SO refreshing to be looking FOR animals to place, as opposed to looking FOR new homes for unwanted animals (the norm, for so many unvalid reasons) - so I was delighted with my search.

I contacted my friend, Theresa Williams, director of St. Charles Animal Control, and put her on task.  It took her a week, but last Saturday, my friend and I went out to adopt the first two of three kittens that landed in her shelter, teensie tiny things about 6 or 7 weeks old.  Their momma was in a cage next to them, recently spayed, and looking for a new home.

We brought these babies back to St. Louis from St. Charles for a few hours before he took them to O'Fallon, IL, where his daughter lives, and OH! MY! GOSH!!!! I have not been exposed to SO MUCH ENERGY for a very long time!!!!  I let them out of my carrier.

They zigged.

They zagged.

They ran AROUND and ABOUT and got into EVERYTHING!!!

They jumped (well, scrambled and clawed, actually, they are so little) up onto the couch and practiced Shredding and Destruction Skills and went UP! and DOWN! the walls, ON! and OVER! their surfaces, their little, tiny, bright, beady eyes were just chock full of mischief, and they were LOVING life!!!!

It was breathless.  Not for them, but for me, they wore me out just watching them.

They are both polydactyl, which means that they have an extra toe, which is pretty unusual, but what is REALLY unusual is that they are BOTH polydactyl in both front AND back feet - so they have extra toes on all four extremeties.  Both little tabby kittens, I can't wait to hear what Ali decides to name them, she had a list of male-male names, female-female names, and one for a male-female combination.  These are both sisters.

12 year old girls are one of my favourite beings on the planet, I adore this child, and I am so glad to have both gotten her two new kitties and also placed two homeless strays in a wonderful home.

So - to get on my Soap Box - while I had a wonderful time linking up this family, there should NOT BE tons of unwanted kittens, there is NOT enough homes for them, so PLEASE SPAY AND NEUTER YOUR PETS, or, if you don't, for health reasons, keep them responsibly NOT breeding.

Life is good today -

Dorene
