Maplewood Business: St. Louis Salt Room

The St. Louis Salt Room is a first in the Midwest and could help relieve stress and improve respiratory conditions.

My name is Nick Bettger. I am the new Assistant Director at the Maplewood Chamber of Commerce and Maplewood Community Betterment Foundation (MCBF). Maplewood has a unique collection of businesses: some are well known and some are diamonds in the rough.  I’m going to give you the low down on a Maplewood business each week to help you discover all that the city has to offer. First up is the .

The Saint Louis Salt Room located on Sutton Blvd is exactly what its name entails: a room of salt. What is the point of having a room of salt? Owner Clay Juracsik started the business as he was looking for non-pharmaceutical methods to treat his daughter’s asthma.  The dimly lit room, filled with salt from floor to ceiling, offers a therapeutic and preventative experience that may help you cope with everything from asthma and allergies to stress and anxiety.

The practice comes from Russia and the Far East where they noticed that workers in the salt mines had reduced rates of lung disease. While no medical research has been done in the U.S. yet, it has been clinically tested in Russia to be 81.4-92.3% effective at providing long-term relief for asthma, allergies, bronchitis, and cystic fibrosis. The St. Louis Salt Room is the first salt spa in the Midwest, so you could be the first of your friends to experience the relaxing and beneficial experience that the St. Louis Salt Room has to offer. Give it a try and you may become a believer.
