Mother's Day is Like a Second Birthday

As a "Christmas baby," my birthday usually isn't all about me, but Mother's Day is.

I love Mother's Day. I really didn't start loving it, of course, until I became a mom myself.

I think Mother's Day is what it must feel like to have a birthday on any other day of the year, but Christmas Day. Yes, I'm a "Christmas baby," as everyone says who requests to see my license (which, of course, those people are less and less these days). A Christmas birthday is nice, but you know, it's not "all about you, all day." Whereas Mother's Day (or Mother's Day weekend for that matter) is pretty much all about me. I'm digging it.

But I'm more digging the gifts that I've received from my kids. Let's see, where shall I begin? I've been given a brown paper lunch bag containing colorful annuals and the bag is decorated with words that read "You are satisfactory." Love it.  Hearing those words of endearment, I'm really hoping that the teacher just wrote on the smartboard a list of phrases for them to copy.

I also received a lovely invitation to Mother's Day breakfast next week and, as if I needed encouragement to go, it reads "It's free, fun and excited." Love it.

I also received a top 10 list of reasons that I'm loved or "spontaneous" which included the typical, "I love my mom because she knows where I'm ticklish" (thats, frankly, a given for any mom to know) but this was the kicker for me: "I love my mom because she likes opra whinfrey behind the scenes." LOVE it.

I'm really enjoying my birthday—I mean Mother's Day—and I hope all of you great moms out there, both among us and those that have gone before us, are remembered, cherished, and appreciated on this beautiful weekend. What fun gifts have you received from your littles?
